Philosophical Practice
Compassionate care guided by the many human traditions of reason and the heart.

Biography
Micah Cavaleri
I am Micah Cavaleri. Over the years I have played many roles in life, planting in me a desire to explore all the ways we humans seek happiness. And I want to share that desire with you. That is why I created Keweenaw Philosophical Practice.
Since graduating from the University of St Thomas in 1999 with degrees in Philosophy and Catholic Theology, I have followed a winding path through many different lives. I earned my Master’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota as well as a Graduate Certificate in Advanced International Affairs from Texas A&M, Bush School of Government. Along the way, I served as a Cavalry Scout and a satellite communications operator in the Army National Guard. When I came home from the war in Iraq, I used the money I’d saved to start a small publishing company, Dead Man Publishing. I get to publish whatever appeals to my heart and mind and invite authors with lives and thoughts I admire.
More importantly, I trained in Logic-Based Therapy (LBT) through the National Philosophical Counseling Association. After that accreditation as an LBT consultant, I volunteered as a jail chaplain and earned an M.Div. in Systematic Lutheran Theology at Luther Seminary in St Paul, MN. I have trained in and practiced pastoral care both through formal Clinical Pastoral Education as well as in the role of pastor for two small Lutheran (ELCA) churches here in the Keweenaw.
I’ve been married to the one and only for me for 23 years. Together we are raising our daughter, who is everyday growing into something more wondrous than the day before.
My life has taught me that relationships and learning together as friends or a community are the heart of the human journey. I hope we can journey together.

Philosophical Practice draws on thousands of years of philosophical reflection from both Eastern and Western traditions to guide us in confronting the problems of our daily lives.

Philosophical Practice is a non-medical approach to counseling that uses the wisdom of the world’s philosophical and religious traditions to deepen our appreciation of life’s value and meaning.
Because the unexamined life is not worth living.
We seek:
- To provide a confidential and affirming forum for philosophical investigations.
- To promote philosophy as a means of living a life of intellectual fulfillment.
- To seek out healthy alternatives to traditional counseling.
- To provide affordable services for those not now in need of professional medical and psychological counseling.
- To affirm the value of each individual’s search for meaning.
